Roundtable working towards Race Equity in the Coaching Profession

In 2021, Coaching at Work organised the first Roundtable working towards Race Equity in the Coaching Profession, gathering representatives from leading professional coaching and coaching bodies to explore collaboration and share learning to further the race equity agenda in coaching as part of wider diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) initiatives. The Roundtable is hosted by Coaching at Work regularly, with representatives from these bodies: Association for Coaching, Association of Coaching Supervisors, Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision, the British Psychology Society Division of Coaching Psychology, Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA), European Mentoring and Coaching Council UK, UK International Coaching Federation, International Society for Coaching Psychology, Psychological Society of Ireland Coaching Psychology Special Interest Group.

In 2021, the Roundtable released the following statement: Professional coaching bodies agree: ‘We stand against racism’ and commit to further dialogue around collaboration’. Other initiatives include an Open Letter to training, education and qualification providers in coaching, mentoring and supervision regarding diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in coaching and coaching supervision, launched to coincide with the UK’s Race Equity Week in February 2023. The letter encourages such providers to review progress towards their organisation’s DEIB targets, demonstrate commitment to DEIB, include training and development specifically about DEIB in their curriculum to raise awareness around DEIB through substantive learning content, and start thinking about how they can embed DEIB across the business, including in all training and development. The Roundtable is also developing a Charter for Race Equity.
